At work, myself and a fellow food lover have devised a lunch 'club' the aim of which is to educate and encourage ourselves and fellow workers in our office to experiment with new food experiences. We have decided to hold the 'meetings' on the last Friday of each month in a different restaurant around the CBD or city fringe that is accessible, and hopefully somewhat interesting in its menu. We decided that it was not going to be solely a 'cheap and cheerful' event, we wanted to try some of the restaurants we didn't otherwise get to sample due to a general dislike of the city on the weekend. For our fist outing - last Friday - we took up the offer of the 'Spring Lunch Special' at Upper House - Federation Square. The lunch was advertised in the Federation Square mailing list last month and I thought it would be a nice first lunch for our club. We managed to round up 10 epicurious staff members and off we set. The Spring Lunch Special consisted of the following choices:
ENTREES
Pickled Ham Hock Terrine, Sauce Gribiche
or
Scallops, Cauliflower & Chorizo Oil
MAINS
Veal Schnitzel, Potato Puree, Light Jus
or
Atlantic Salmon, Green Beans, Tomato Fondue
DESSERT
Lemon Tart, Clotted Cream
or
Selection of Ice Creams & Sorbets
Tea or Coffee
I decided to go for the Scallops and then the Salmon, as did most of the table. We did have one adventurer who ate the Schnitzel - with the following pronouncment "it was fine, 9 out of ten..." The Meals were lovely - no complaints from any of the ten attendees except for a slight delay between entree and main (they were pretty busy, and we did all order the same meals), I did also notice that one of our group munched down on one (or three...) vita wheats upon her return to the office... Anyway, the lunch was fun, the idea is strong and I look forward to any suggestions of where to try next month.
