Well, I hate to say it, but I was right! The Hotel Spencer was exactly as good as I thought it would be (this may have something to do with the fact that I have been there quite a few times...) and we enjoyed a lovely last lunch with Roberto who is leaving us for foreign shores in a week or so. It was a fitting finale for a fine friend and colleague, if only we had had more time (I would have had an entree). As it was, I had the "House made Gnocci, fried, with Goats Cheese, Provencale sauce, Rocket, and Parmesan. It was a dream - although strangely similar in its 'feel' to what you might call potato nuggets... I hate to say that because I am afraid it may give the wrong impression - this dish was really lovely. A few of the guys went for the well known and loved (by them) Corned Girello on mash with braised Cabbage and Mustard Seed sauce (which doesn't look as sickly as the old fashioned 'white' sauce that normally accompaies silverside). This dish always seems to be a favourite at the Spencer, and I would dearly love to try it one day; but have terrible memories of corned silverside from my childhood that I just can't seem to get past - anyone have the name of a good food therapist?
