NYE 06/06 - We were transported!

Well, as per usual, I managed to have nothing arranged for New Years Eve this year. Most of our mates were either out of town or had made plans for their NYE back in the heady days of spring... I - by keeping my options open - left myself wide open for dissapointment. But nay! my recipe for NYE success (consisting of 1 portion complete fluke and a large pinch of optimism) resulted in a fantastic evening at Transport (yes, that huge, perpetually crowded bar at Federation Square) was transformed into a NYE experience to be remembered.

I had heard that Transport was doing a $30 entry for the evening which included 2 drinks and fingerfood. I didn't really expect much fingerfood... but was happy about 2 included champers , so J, our friend E, and myself turned up at the doors of Transport at 6pm NYE. There was a queue... BUT we were at the front of it! The venue closed at 6pm for an hour (so that the staff could clean up and get changed into their hilarious fancy dress costumes for the evening) which meant that we got to pick and choo
se where we wanted to sit for the evening when they re-opened at 7pm.

In brief: We had a prime position at the corner of Swanston St, behind glass but with the roof open making fireworks watching a really impressive part of the evening. We ended up turning down the fingerfood after absolutely stuffing ourselves with incredibly decent tasting and well cooked/thought out morsels (favourites were the individual buckets of spicy hot chips and the lovely calamari). The bar was crowded but the staff were really happy and quick. For $30 on NYE in the heart of Melbourne I will be back there again next year (although I would be willing to bet they put the price up by then!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL - HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY ONE!!
